Quapaw official elected to office
J.R. Mathews, vice chairman of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, was elected treasurer of the National Indian Gaming Association recently in San Diego, Calif.
Mathews also is vice chairman of the Downstream Casino Resort Authority, which is building a hotel and casino just off Interstate 44, where Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas meet. The casino is scheduled to open July 5.
The National Indian Gaming Association is a not-for-profit trade group composed of 184 American Indian tribes and other nonvoting associate members.
Mathews’ term as treasurer will last two years.
Sign Designs gets state nomination
Sign Designs in Joplin has been nominated for the 2008 Governor’s Small Business Award, which is given to one small Missouri business each year. The winner will be announced during the Missouri Economic Development Conference, set for Sept. 10-12 in Kansas City.

EaglePicher earns awards
EaglePicher Technologies in Joplin recently was honored with two industry awards.
The company received a 2007 Boeing Performance Excellence Award for achieving a silver level of performance over a 12-month period. EP Technologies was one of 250 companies out of about 10,000 Boeing suppliers to reach the silver or gold level. EP Technologies supplies Boeing’s Smart Bomb thermal batteries.
EP Technologies also received the Preferred Supplier Award from Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control business unit in recognition of the company’s quality, delivery and business performance. EP Technologies provides thermal batteries and other devices for Lockheed Martin. The company also received Lockheed Martin’s Strategic Performance Management Team Award for reducing scrap, rework and costs.
O&F honored by Eaton Corp.
O&F Machine Products Co. in Joplin recently was recognized for supplying Eaton Corp. with precision component parts, receiving the company’s Direct Supplier Award.
O&F has been in Joplin for more than 50 years and employs 90 people. The shop specializes in hardened and ground precision component parts, including cylindrical and spherical grinding.
Eutsler Studio moves to Joplin
Eutsler Studio and Tux Shop has moved from Neosho to Fountain Plaza in Joplin at the corner of 32nd Street and Connecticut Avenue.

Sarcoxie operation gets Lowe’s deal
SARCOXIE, Mo. — Mid-American Hardwoods recently was awarded the S4S board program in conjunction with BlueLinx Corp., to be sold through Lowe’s for its new Purvis, Miss., distribution center.
The products will be manufactured at both the Sarcoxie and Mississippi Mid-America locations, and will increase the sales volume of the Dimension and Moulding branches of the company.
The operation will provide products to 58 Lowe’s stores by July 2008.
Local dance clubchanges hands
The Silverado Dance Club at 615 S. Tyler Ave. in Joplin recently changed hands.
It now is owned by Charles R. Bird, the owner of Champ’s Pub & Grill in Joplin.
