My five grandchildren and I take to the driveway and lawn to fill plastic bags with acorns. There is a lot of chatter to see what we have found. Then the fun really beings. Acorns can become works of art for children of all ages. Spread them out so they will dry and then use a dot of glue inside caps to secure them to acorns. Let them dry. Arm the children with small art paintbrushes and washable paint containers. Paint the acorns any color or combination of colors, whatever you desire. After drying you can use a toothpick to paint on eyes, noses and mouths. Caps can be painted or left in their natural state. Grandchildren and “pa-pa” clean easily. P.S. Wearing old clothes, at the suggestion of my wife, was not a bad idea.
