MIAMI, Okla. — Northeast Oklahoma wheat producers can expect more competition from rescue grass in their wheat fields, said Stan Fimple, Oklahoma State University Extension agriculture agent at Miami. Rescue grass is an invasive grass similar to matua that is best controlled with the herbicide PowerFlex, he said. OSU research shows best control comes when it is applied 60 days after wheat is planted. Fimple warns that a “good rain” is needed to get rescue grass growing before spraying. Chemical supplies are limited, he added. Historic farm tour set for Saturday PARSONS, Kan. — The Southeast Kansas Farm History Center in Parsons will hold a Farm Heritage Celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Tolen Creek Park. The park is just south of the U.S. Highway 59 and U.S. Highway 400 exit in Parsons, just east of Stockyards Travel Plaza’s south entrance on Cattle Drive. Farm Heritage Celebration is to include a post-Civil War settlement, living history demonstrations, wagon rides and agricultural equipment demonstrations from the 1890s through the early 1950s. Anybody interested in displaying antique (pre-1950s) tractors or other agricultural implements should call (620) 778-1551 or (620) 423-1410. Seminars to focus on rural living NEVADA., Mo. — Rural Living 101 is the topic for a two-session class that will be offered in Nevada for people new to living outside the city limits. The sessions are to be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, and on Monday, Nov. 10, at the TeleCenter, 1015 N. West St. The cost is $35 for both sessions.
