BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reported that net sales for the four-week period that ended Oct. 31 were up 2.3 percent, hitting $28.57 billion, compared with $27.92 billion a year earlier. Sales at Wal-Mart stores in the United States were up 5.3 percent. Sales at Sam’s Clubs rose 4.5 percent. International sales were down 5.9 percent. Sales for the first 39 weeks of the retailer’s fiscal year rose 8.3 percent, hitting $291.94 billion, compared with $269.64 billion a year ago. International sales are up 13.3 percent for the year so far, the company reported. Local car dealer receives honor A Joplin vehicle retailer recently was honored at the 14th annual National Special Finance and Buy Here-Pay Here Conference in Las Vegas. Bob Mulkey, owner and president of Regal Car Sales and Credit, was named Buy-Here Pay-Here Dealer of the Year. “It is an honor to be recognized by your peers,” Mulkey said. “Regal strives each day to help its customers meet their transportation needs for a price they can afford, a role that will only become more crucial as the economy continues to spiral downward.” Mulkey has more than 20 years’ experience in the used-car industry. In 2007, the National Independent Automobile Association named Mulkey the National Quality Dealer of the Year.
