St. John’s Mercy Foundation recently presented rescue extrication equipment to the Seneca Fire Department.

“Our call volume of traffic accidents has more than doubled over the last decade, which has required the need for extrication on many occasions,” said Bruce Jeffers, Seneca fire service instructor. “Without the Mercy Foundation, it would be impossible for us to handle this type of emergency response.”

The equipment includes a main power unit, hydraulic spreaders, cutters and rams for crews to use in removing accident victims who become trapped inside their vehicles.

Funding for Mercy Foundation projects is made possible by donations from individuals and businesses, special events, and bequests in the wills of area residents.
