PITTSBURG, Kan. — Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center’s chief executive officer, Jonathan Davis, announced Tuesday that he has accepted the position of president of Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Davis, 39, came to Mount Carmel in 2006 from a hospital in Little Rock, Ark.

“I began in patient care, gradually taking on additional responsibilities,” he said. “I never had an epiphany I wanted to be a CEO of a hospital. It just happened. It’s hard to believe.”

Davis said he loves the Pittsburg community and Mount Carmel, but when former colleagues asked him to put his name in the hat for the Dallas position, it was a career move he couldn’t pass up.

Methodist Charlton is the second largest hospital in the Dallas-based Methodist Health System.

A selection committee will meet next week under the direction of the Mount Carmel board of trustees to begin the search for a new CEO, said Randy Peterson, senior vice president of regional operations for Mount Carmel’s parent company, Via Christi Health System.

“Then we should be able to put together a timeline,” Peterson said.

Hiring a replacement could take from 60 days to six months, he said.

“These sorts of things have a lot of variables in terms of the quality of candidates we receive, how comfortable we are in the interview process, etc.,” Peterson said.

“Mount Carmel is in a great position. Jonathan has done a very good job of positioning us. There is tremendous community support, a great medical staff that is very engaged and supportive of their hospital. We have a really good strategic plan, well-articulated and outlined — something a candidate can come in and see, see the positive staff and community.”
