Susan Adams, of Able Manufacturing, honored with STEP Award

JOPLIN, Mo. — Susan Adams of Able Manufacturing will be honored next month in Washington, D.C., for her “excellence and leadership” in manufacturing.

Adams, director of human resources and environmental health and safety for Able, is one of 122 women around the country to receive the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award. That award is presented by The Manufacturing Institute, Deloitte, the University of Phoenix, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and represents women at all levels of manufacturing, from the factory floor to the boardroom.

Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute, said in a statement. “We chose to honor these women because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole.”

Bill Pesch, Able Manufacturing’s chief executive officer, said in a statement that Adams’ contributions have helped the company make needed changes and reinvent itself in order to remain successful.

According to Pesch, because of Adams’ leadership, Able received OSHA’s SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) status in Kansas, was recognized by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon for pro-actively hiring veterans, and received Missouri’s 2012 “Breaking Traditions” Employer of the Year Award.

Adams is also a past chairman of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.
