Freeman fares well in latest U.S. News & World Report hospital ranking

JOPLIN, Mo. — Freeman Health System ranked fourth in the state of Missouri among hospitals according to U.S. News & World Report’s latest hospital rankings.

That report was released today.

Cox Health Hospital, based in Springfield, ranked seventh and Mercy Hospital Springfield ranked 10th among 23 hospitals surveyed in Southwest Missouri.

It is the second year in a row Freeman has attained that rank.

In addition, Freeman was received special designation by the magazine in seven high-performing specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and pulmonology.

“This achievement should resonate with each Freeman employee,” Paula Baker, Freeman president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “It is a nod to the skill of their hands, the depth of their dedication, and the breadth of their knowledge. What an honor it is to have a nationally known, well-respected entity such as U.S. News & World Report recognize those very traits. Every day I am proud of our Freeman family. This day, that is especially true.”

The hospital rankings, according to U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, are intended to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges.
