NEW YORK (AP) — Stock futures are pointing to a lower opening as investors sort through another round of economic data and retail earnings.

Overseas markets retreated slightly Tuesday after big gains the previous day.

Investors are examining earnings from large retailers, looking for signs of strength in consumers. A report showing a sharp rebound in retail sales helped push major indexes higher on Monday.

A new report showing inflation remained in check last month had little effect on trading.

Dow Jones industrial average futures are down 22, or 0.2 percent, at 10,347. Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures are down 2.50, or 0.2 percent, at 1,103.80, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are down 6.50, or 0.4 percent, at 1,797.00.
