Truck driver honored for reaching four million mile mark

JOPLIN, Mo. — Bill Compton was honored Wednesday by colleagues and company executives for driving his truck four million miles for Con-way Truckload and its predecessor, CFI.

Compton, 74, said in his career, he has been to every state in the nation, and all but one of the Canadian provinces. He said when he was hired by CFI nearly 33 years ago, he thought he might last six months.

“It’s been a real ride for 33 years,” he told well-wishers. “Thank God, I made it through. I wouldn’t have made it without Him and His help.”
