Bass Pro Shop announces Anchorage location

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A second major outdoor retailer from the Midwest has announced plans to open an Anchorage store.

Springfield, Mo.-based Bass Pro Shops says it will open a 100,000-square-foot store at the Glenn Square Shopping Center, near Merrill Field on the Glenn Highway. Another 3- to 4-acres of land will be developed as a wetlands nature center.

There was no announced opening date, but KTUU reports the store will be open by the start of next year’s fishing season.

Another outfitter, Sidney, Neb.-based Cabela’s Inc., earlier this year announced plans for a 100,000-square-foot retail store in South Anchorage. That’s slated to open in spring 2014.
