A partnership aimed at attracting an ultra-high-speed broadband network to the region will be called “Broadband Beyond Borders, the Heartland Giga-Region Initiative”, officials said this morning.

Google Inc. is planning to test the broadband network in one or more locations in the country, and local communities, chambers of commerce and schools are collaborating to make this area one of those sites. This area includes six counties in three states, as well as nine Native American tribes, according to the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.

The name of the campaign was announced during a press conference at the chamber office today.
