OVERLAND PARK, Kan. —
Compass Minerals International Inc. said Monday that it has named Francis Malecha as its new president and chief executive.
The Overland Park, Kan.-based fertilizer and salt company said Malecha’s appointment is effective Jan. 17. He also will join the company’s board.
Angelo Brisimitzakis, Compass’ previous CEO, retired at the end of 2012 after leading the company for nearly seven years.
Malecha, 48, has more than 25 years of experience in agri-business. He joined Viterra Inc. in 2000 and went on to serve as its chief operating officer for grain. Viterra was acquired in December by Glencore International PLC and Malecha was named head of agricultural products for North America.
Shares of Compass Minerals fell 5 cents to $77.68 in midday trading. Its shares are down 4 percent from their 52-week high of $81.13 in early November. They traded as low as $68.22 in mid-June.
