Voices: Why keep importing?

Today, as I was refueling my automobile, I was thinking of several things that the candidates seeking the office of president state they will accomplish once in office. Taxes are to be raised on the rich, universal health insurance will be required for all and each has a plan as to how he or she will deal with our military now fighting a war in Iraq. Yet nothing is said about meeting our very serious need of oil and petroleum products.

As gasoline appears to be approaching $4 a gallon, I remembered reading a bulletin from the Energy Information Administration. It stated there are 31 states with crude oil reserves, but the top five are Texas, Alaska, California, Wyoming and New Mexico, and there is also substantial crude oil reserves in federal offshore fields.

If this is true, why continue importing petroleum regardless of sources when we have an underground supply capable of meeting out needs for perhaps 800-years plus? The only ones who would seem to benefit from this crippling situation are those gambling on futures in the stock markets and of course the CEOs with the fabulous salaries, etc.

If one recognizes the existence of the God and Creator of this world, it would seem foolish to believe that he would create something that would eventually need man to restructure it. And if you agree, then you should also be able to see that global warming is a “scam.” All elements necessary for continued replenishing of the earth and for the benefit of man: (i.e.) oxygen, water, food, fire, coal, petroleum, electrical even nuclear energy and others, were placed here from the beginning. It is time that we return to common senses.
