Voices: More than that

— This letter is in response to the letter sent in by Karley Johnston titled “It’s just about life, right?”
I’d like to sincerely thank the House for passing the bill that places restrictions on abortion. I’d also like to thank the people out there who signed the petition to help it pass. It’s good to know there are still people out there who hold on to moral values.
My heart broke at the thought that someone can talk about the miracle of conception and refer to it as “blastocysts and zygotes.” It’s a baby, whether you want to admit it or not.
Everyone who is angry about the women losing their right to make their own decisions is totally clueless to the real issue at hand. It’s not about a woman with a pea-sized brain who can’t think for herself, it’s about both the woman and the man taking responsibility for their actions — something people have a hard time doing anymore. If you want to engage in sexual activity you need to take responsibility if you become pregnant. And being responsible is definitely not deciding to kill a helpless being just because you don’t want the responsibility of motherhood. That’s plain selfish.
And for those women who talk about the unfairness of becoming pregnant due to rape or facing a life or death situation during pregnancy, face the facts: The majority of abortions are due to women who just don’t want to have a baby.
“It’s just a life” you said with so little respect. I want to know if you could say “It’s just a life” about your children, already born, or your sibling, your husband, or whomever it is that’s close to your heart.
If you really think about it, you should be thankful that your mom didn’t just think of you as a blastocyst or zygote that she couldn’t deal with.
