Voices: Changes at The Bridge

June 21, 2009 08:26 pm

I wanted to write this letter in regard to the changes that have been made at The Bridge in the past few weeks.
I understand that 22 employees at the youth center were let go and a new direction has been established with a new campaign called, “I Give 10,” which is to involve the community of Joplin with a larger role in its everyday activities.
My wife and I have been supporters of The Bridge for several years and have traveled to Joplin to help with the fireworks stands and have met these fine workers who give so much of themselves for the cause of the youth in the Joplin community. I never felt they treated their time as a job, but, like a personal ministry to help to establish a place that was safe and an encouragement to the kids, whatever the activity. To me these were the faces of this youth center and will no longer be a part of the daily contact to these youths.
My point is to say, “well done.” I just would like to acknowledge these 22 people to the community and say: “I wish you the best of luck wherever your path may lead.”
My wife and I would like to encourage the Joplin community and area to support The Bridge in its effort for a new direction with the “I Give 10” campaign and take the time to volunteer your time for the youth of the Joplin area.
