Voices: Smoking ban

The Joplin Globe

I read the article on hospitals making people quit smoking (Globe, Aug. 14). I talked to a nurse recently, and she was telling me about the new policy.
I told her there are going to be a lot of us who won’t be coming to any of the hospitals because of this. Our rights have been taken away.
There are going to be people who need somebody to be with them while in the hospital, but if that person is a smoker, he or she won’t be going to help that person.
I have an elderly father who smokes. He said he would rather die at home than go to the hospital where he couldn’t smoke if he needed medical attention.
I think this is going to be a disaster for all the people who smoke to get medical attention.
What happened to a free country?
