Your View: Local loyalties

JOPLIN, Mo. — Thank you to Bill Fleischaker for his guest column (Globe, Feb. 18). I was beginning to lose hope that anyone in Joplin has any common sense.

As one who lost my house and two automobiles (and was injured) in the 2011 tornado, I am appalled that anyone on the City Council (with its insider information) would attempt to make even one dollar because of this tragedy.

My family has been in the Joplin area for more than 100 years. More than 15 of my close and extended family members lost everything in the tornado. We all stayed and rebuilt, or bought other homes here.

The City Council’s and The Joplin Globe’s loyalties should be to us the residents and not to outside people who can pack up and leave at any time, taking our money with them.
