Your View: Support Proposition A

In the months following the May 2011 tornado, the Citizens Advisory Recovery Team led a listening effort across the city to understand our residents’ vision for recovery in Joplin.

Curbside recycling was mentioned at the very first public input meeting and continued to remain in the forefront as team members asked residents to verify their priorities. We reviewed the plan with the Joplin City Council and brought it to council members for acceptance in November of that year.

The present council accepted the report unanimously. In February 2012, after working through an implementation plan with members of the City Council, school board members and the Joplin Chamber of Commerce board, we presented our action steps to all three groups. Again, the report was endorsed unanimously.

In addition, the Joplin Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals Network conducted a wide-reaching poll that returned a positive result on recycling. Curbside pickup will make recycling easier and more accessible to our residents. Members of the CART executive committee, on behalf of people across our community who dared to dream about what we could be, wholeheartedly support the ballot initiative Proposition A.

Let’s take it to the curb.
