Your View: Help seniors

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — The Smithfield Christian Church and Gary Stubblefield comprehend “do unto others as you would do unto me.”

They alone stepped forward to help fill a need. They saw the dire need for transportation to and from the Carl Junction Senior Center for our senior citizens, trapped in a gray world, often alone and lonely.

We have a great Senior Center and friendly people to talk to (our age, our memories) and a nutritious lunch ($3 suggested). The staff is friendly and helpful, and people with disabilities are accommodated.

One day a week can’t be asking too much. Linda Patrum schedules the riders. If we could go more often it would be like opening a window for fresh air. A definite enrichment to seniors who have loved you all your life.

It’s made a difference in my world after years of nothing to do — now something and somewhere available.

When you meet your maker, how will you explain your omission to help needy seniors?
