It seems our government is always touting new jobs it creates by spending taxpayers’ money.
Now Joplin, and even the Globe, are touting spending tax money for a new traffic light so a new Hy-Vee store can open in Joplin. They say it will create 300-plus new jobs, $6 million to $7 million in payrolls and new tax revenues.
How will this happen? Unless the people of Joplin eat more bread and drink more milk where will all of this new business come from?
People will just stop shopping at their old store and shop at the new Hy-Vee. The old store will lay off 300-plus people because of business losses and collect less taxes for the government and maybe one or more of the old stores will have to close.
This seems like the smoke and mirrors our government has used for years to spend our money telling us how we will benefit.
