Voices: Way of life

JOPLIN, Mo. — Jim Stone’s recent column in The Joplin Globe shares with readers the “need to stop parroting the words of pundits ... to honestly listen to each other ... and pursue a dialogue that actually makes our nation progress.” In response to this plea, I would like readers to know why I will vote on Aug. 3 for Bill White for state representative of the 129th District.

Beyond the fact that I support the values that Bill will continue to defend as our state representative, (which needn’t be parroted here), Bill’s vocation to service will see that those values effectively aid his constituents and provide for his community. He has proved a strong desire to work for others. As Bill realized his calling to serve others, his community activities took precedence over his career, which could only happen with the active support of his family. This is evident in a few of the areas in which I have personally seen him active, from volunteer teaching to involvement with the Boy Scouts to being an advocate for the Joplin Swim Team. Bill’s willingness to serve is not a step for personal political gain — it’s a way of life for him.

I trust my vote for Bill White will result in yet another way for Bill to serve others and help our community progress.
