JOPLIN, Mo. —
My husband and I graduated from Joplin High School and Joplin Junior College back in the 1940s. After marriage, we moved to Columbia where my husband got his degree from the University of Missouri.
After his retirement, we moved back to Joplin in 2005 and were impressed by many changes in Joplin, the main one being the Joplin Public Library — beautiful and spacious.
I see that Joplin now plans on building a new library. Why? They should fix their air conditioner in one wing but, outside of that, the facility seems to be roomy and quite sufficient to house all the documents necessary. There are many things that Joplin needs, like new housing.
Many months ago, a home was being sought for the homeless. The Joplin Museum Complex needs a larger, newer home. I could go on and on, but when I read that “someone” is proposing building a new library, my husband and I are wondering why. It really upsets us that money would be poured into a new building that is NOT needed.
