I have had enough of Rita Crowell’s self-righteous and offensive comments. I have chalked it up in the past to a narrow-minded ignorance, but a letter to the editor, such as her letter dated March 6, demands a reply.
First of all Rita, we are not a Christian nation. This is a fact, and nothing that can be debated. We are a pluralistic nation of many faiths, agnostics and atheists. You do not have a right to deny others that you do not agree with, or approve of, their rightful place in society and common respect due all Americans.
I think your lack of tolerance and understanding perverse, but I would never think of writing letter after letter, calling you names including perverse, and demand that you abide by my moral code.
The brave students of MSSU are demanding only what all other colleges in the area have already acknowledged: that sexual orientation should be added to the list of categories guaranteed protection from discrimination.
It does not matter what you think Rita, and I could care less. But I do care that good people are assaulted every day by you, and have to read these insults in their local paper. Gay and lesbian people are citizens due equal rights, and respect in this country.
