To quote Missouri Southern State University President Bruce Speck (Globe, March 7): “... maybe some landscaping we can do ...” Wow! Does this man really have that little disregard and knowledge of our land?
When I first heard the proposed location for the medical school, I was dismayed and wondered why the school would consider this 40 acres of native prairie as a possible building site. As a 1985 graduate of Missouri Southern, I had been made well aware of the importance of this property, and have always had a sense of pride as I drive by it, knowing what it stands for.
But please, Dr. Speck, what you said was a little like telling the parents of the last village virgin as she is about to be sacrificed to the Great God of Bounty, “It’s OK. We will plant a posy for her.”
