Your View: For the record

JOPLIN, Mo. — After reading Gwen Hunt’s letter to the editor on July 11 regarding my column, I felt I needed to set a few things straight.

In the column printed by the Globe, there was a sentence that stated “The foundation this nation was built on made the United States of America one of the greatest nations in the world; the Constitution that provided the rule of law, the freedoms we were blessed with, the Biblical definition of marriage, and the love and reverence of God.”

After reading my column, Ms. Hunt said I seemed to imply by my sentence construction all four of those items are embodied in the Constitution.

The wording I sent to the Globe stated the following: The foundations this nation was built on made the United States of America one of the greatest nations in the world; the Constitution that provided the rule of law, the freedoms we were blessed with, the Biblical definition of marriage, and the love and reverence of God. Without these foundations, the future of our Republic is in question.

The word “foundations” was changed by the Globe to “foundation.”

When one word is changed, it can change the whole meaning of a paragraph.

Secondly, Ms. Hunt suggested that I should read the Constitution.

Well, Ms. Hunt I have read the Constitution, and I would suggest that every American read it.

You might want to start with Article 2. After reading about the responsibilities of the president and Congress, it should be clear to everyone that this president has ignored the Constitution and instead gone around our elected officials to carry out his agenda.
