Voices: Finally, someone with a plan

JOPLIN, Mo. — I am writing in support of Shelly Dreyer, candidate for the 129th state representative seat. When I first had a chance to talk with Shelly about her candidacy, I had a lot of questions. I had questions about her stance on our state’s economic situation and funding for education, as well as public education standards implemented by the state, but more important, questions about protecting life.

My wife and I are four-time adoptive parents and want to know that the people elected to serve our great state are pro-life, but more than that, are adoption-friendly and have a plan to enforce those beliefs once they are elected. Shelly has proven herself to me as someone with a plan, not just the same safe talking points. It is impressive that Shelly has received two pro-life endorsements, but even more impressive is her plan that will allow children to be placed into loving and caring adoptive families within an acceptable timetable, not shuffled from foster home to foster home for years, which could cause immeasurable emotional damage to them.

Shelly is a person who respects everybody’s opinions, and will not put blinders on just because she has two pro-life endorsements. I feel that Shelly will actively work to ensure that any reasonable pro-life legislation that is passed will require all people faced with an unexpected pregnancy to be properly educated and given all the alternatives to abortion. I am encouraged to know we will have someone fighting for our rights and the rights of the unborn in Jefferson City. I would like all who are adoptive or foster parents to vote for the person I feel will be our voice in Jefferson City. Vote for Shelly Dreyer.
