JOPLIN, Mo. —
The new interchange at Range Line Road and Interstate 44 is confusing. What in the world were they thinking to design this? With all the traffic lights and the crooked lanes, it is like an obstacle course.
I find it hard to believe that the state spent good money to build this interchange when the old one worked OK and had done so for many years.
The attention should have been directed to the intersection of Missouri highways 43 and 171. It is nearly impossible to make it through the one-lane (each way, east and west) intersection many times during the day. The traffic light at Fir Road keeps traffic backed up all the way to Stone’s Corner for vehicles trying to go east. Then, to add to the frustration, the light does not hold long enough if a large truck is slowly trying to go through.
The Missouri Department of Transportation should ask local motorists to suggest where improvements need to be made and to help MoDOT prioritize the projects.
