Your View: Rehab for Congress

JOPLIN, Mo. — Straight-faced George Gobel used to say, “When I was a boy, my dad was the town drunk” — dramatic pause — “and we lived in Chicago.” Hardly a word of truth, we reckon.

The circumstances of our “fiscal cliff” did not accumulate in a vacuum but with the apparent foreknowledge of a considerable number of elected officials.

So if the elder Gobel could have used a managed intervention, is Washington, D.C., now populated by political profligates? And how do we arrange rehab for those authority types?
