Federal, state leaders salute Joplin’s recovery

A deadly May twister may have punched a hole in Joplin and Duquesne two years ago, but the resolve to repair it will help other communities stand strong when they face similar disasters. That was the message of state and national diginitaries to a crowd of about 2,500 who observed the second anniversary of Joplin’s devastating May 22, 2011, storm during a ceremony Wednesday in Cunningham Park.

Your View: Letter to President Obama and Congress

JOPLIN, Mo. — Stop sending all of the taxpayers’ dollars to all the other countries. America is on the brink of destruction. When do you plan on taking care of America? We pay our taxes as required. Now, you do what you should do and put America first.

You talk about reducing the national debt in 10, 15 or more years. However, if you used the money — taxpayers’ money — that you are sending overseas, it might take one to three years and get us out of this debt, and we could all breathe easier and enjoy our lives more. We have earned that by paying taxes every year.

When America is no longer able to pay your wages, will you look to those other countries for wages in order to keep you in the lifestyle you are accustomed to?

God bless our country.
