Voices: Flexfuel is a joke

I have a 2007 Chevrolet pickup that is flexfuel. We just got E85 fuel, so I was glad to see the savings, until my first tank of it.

My mileage went from 15 to 16 miles per gallon on regular unleaded to 9.7 mpg on the E85 ! That is an important bit of information left off the window sticker.

So I did some math, to drive 10,000 miles at current fuel prices, it will cost me $632 more to use E85. Where is the incentive to use E85 ? What is the point? I’ll keep using regular unleaded.

I think there is a lot of information about ethanol that is not being shared. Sure, it is good for farmers. Corn prices will continue to rise, and we are creating new jobs in the ethanol plants, but for how long ? How can we justify paying that much more for this fuel ?

Make mine unleaded please !
