This is in response to the letter of Danny Tunnell (Globe, April 10).
Mr. Tunnell dismissed both the creationists and evolutionists and brought a different perspective to the discussion. This illustrates a general principle of nature that what we find depends on our perspective.
A concrete example of this principle is the Mobius strip. It can be demonstrated that the strip has two sides. It can also be demonstrated that it has one side. These two conclusions are contradictory, but there they are.
In the area of physics is the particle-wave nature of light. How you see it depends on how you view it. In the area of psychology is the problem of free will and determinism. Both are obviously true. We can only conclude that it is inherently impossible for us to understand this mysterious universe in which we fumble around. For this reason, I maintain that the subject of intelligent design is a proper subject to be taught in our schools. To bar this discussion by law is to stifle intellectual growth.

Millions of dollars in donations have poured in from around the world since the May 22, 2011, tornado. Those donations represent money from lemonade stands, charity auctions, corporate gifts and celebrity checks, just to name a few. In fact, one year later donations continue to come to Joplin.
