Voices: Post turtle

I asked an old philosopher what he thought about the last election. He said that it’s just another post turtle.

With a puzzled look, I asked him to explain, and he said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle perfectly balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle.’”

He saw I was still puzzled making the connection so he continued to explain: “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, and he doesn’t know what to do while he’s up there, and you just wonder what kind of little rascal put him there to start with.”

I said: “But the people put him up there,” and he said: “No, he was put up there for you to vote on, so you would think you still have some say in the matter.”

Just watch him wave his financial feet in plain air as if he can reach the horizon, not knowing that the harder he tries the farther away it gets. Remember the little rascals put him up there for a reason. After the election things will be different. Nothing will change, it will just be different.
