Your View: Truth rises to the top

JOPLIN, Mo. — This letter is in response to columns and letters written this past week by Anson Burlingame, Diane Slater and others who speak ill of council members who questioned City Manager Mark Rohr’s ability to lead this city. These council members hear comments from staff and citizens regarding the city manager that these letter writers are not privileged to hear.

They do not have the slightest inkling of what could be the reason for the council’s action yet condemn them and ask for their resignations and recall elections without even speaking to them.

These council members take calls from citizens without fail and do their best to assist them. They give freely of their time and knowledge to make Joplin a better place to live, and I respect them for their efforts.

Mr. Rohr serves at the council’s pleasure and is subject to termination should his actions merit. Why discipline (those within the Public Works Department) for unpaid code violations when these collections should have been done by the city’s finance director?

I have over 38 years of experience in construction, and I have never been lied to by (David Hertzberg, Jack Schaller and Steve Cope).

I cannot say the same about Mr. Rohr.

Be patient. Truth is like cream, it rises to the top.
