Your View: Same standards

JOPLIN, Mo. — Motorized scooters should be held to the same standards as other vehicles and not be allowed on major streets if they are not.

I have seen these vehicles roaming Newman Road, Range Line Road and elsewhere within the city limits of Joplin.

They are a hazard to other drivers and themselves and should fall under the same rules. All motorized vehicles should have proof of insurance, tags and a licensed driver before they are allowed on streets or highways.

Right now, the full burden falls on the drivers of cars, trucks, buses, etc., and this is not fair to those individuals.

Motorized scooters are a danger to all who ride them and to the legitimate drivers on our streets and highways.

The Joplin City Council, instead of wasting its time trying to oust Mark Rohr, should take up this issue as it is a safety problem.

Motorized scooters cannot keep up with the traffic, and they endanger everyone on the streets.

Surely the council, in its wisdom, can put it up to a vote of the people and ensure the safety of everyone.
