On Aug. 7, voters will go to the polls and make their decision as to whom they would like to represent them in the upcoming November elections.
No race this year has been more frustrating than the Republican U.S. Senate primary.
There are three candidates who have gone out of their way to make themselves out to be slightly to the right of Atilla the Hun and seem to take pride in making outlandish statements.
I’m a moderate. I always have been and always will be. The sad and frustrating thing about the GOP hopefuls this year is that they could have had a good candidate to challenge Claire McCaskill.
In fact, back in March in an open letter, 18 leaders from the Republican Party, including former Republican Sen. John Danforth, pleaded with State Auditor Tom Schweich to enter the race. Schweich declined the invitation. It appears that the Republican establishment isn’t too confident in either their platforms or in their candidates. Not exactly a vote of confidence for Todd Akin, Sarah Steelman or John Brunner. It really does not seem that there is any room for moderates in the Republican Party this election.

Our View: Connecting the town
Well before the 2011 tornado, Joplin had a problem with “connectivity.” That’s right. The flow of traffic — whether it be cars, pedestrians or bicyclists — has been a sore spot with us for years.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban have promised to kill Afghans who worked for the Americans and their families. In Iraq, similar threats were made by radical Islamic insurgents.

Sen. Church made that statement 38 years ago. He chaired a committee that was formed to develop legislation to rein in the CIA, FBI, NSA and other intelligence agencies, which had been operating outside the bounds of the law, including the Constitution.

Whether you see Edward Snowden as a hero, a traitor or something in between, there is no denying that the admitted “leaker” has opened up an industrial-size can of National Security Agency worms.
