Your View: Future not in doubt

LAMAR, Mo. — I don’t share the pessimism of Marilyn Beasley (Globe, July 7), who talks about the transformation of America.

The future of the republic is not in doubt as long as the U.S. Constitution stands. Many things are happening that should make us a better nation. At last we are beginning to emerge from the debacle of the Bush administration and more than 4,000 military deaths in an Iraq war that was not needed and that cost billions. We will be paying for that mistake for a long time. The economy is coming back strong with 195,000 jobs created last month. President Barack Obama is guiding us away from perpetual war and from intervening on too many fronts.

Obama has seen the catastrophic results (see Joplin) of global warming, confirmed by 97 percent of the nation’s weather scientists, and by executive order made some changes to reduce carbon emissions that Congress has refused to make.

Sure, Obamacare may be flawed and will be fixed in time, but can anyone not be concerned that 30 million Americans are without health care?

The obsession with homosexuality, as evidenced by our columnist, is a misguided effort. Homosexuality is genetic, so these people should not be stigmatized.

The problem is that too many people do not understand Obama’s concern for those in our society who are less fortunate.
