Huge tornado hits Oklahoma City suburb, kills at least 51

A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

Your View: Deserving credit

JOPLIN, Mo. — I’d like to add to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood’s observation published in Wednesday’s Joplin Globe.

He stated that it was baloney for people to think the economic stimulus package didn’t work, that it was working right here in Joplin right now and leading to a better future.

It occurred to me there were a few other factions that deserve credit. Such as: Millions from the United Arab Emirates, private charities, churches, Gov. Jay Nixon’s efforts to release as many funds as possible, gifts from Hollywood celebrities, the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, generous people in this country and all over the world.

Last, but not least, are the enormous contributions of the volunteers, which is still going on. Thank you and God bless you all.
