Your View: On a better track

LAMAR, Mo. — The state of the union is good, according to the president’s address. After the unmitigated disaster of the Bush era, we are on a much better track as a nation.

The Afghanistan war is ending, the stock market is nearing an all-time high, and there is optimism about the economy. Thanks to the administration and the hard work of Hillary Clinton, our standing in the world has improved. We are all safer with the demise of Osama bin Laden.

Unemployment is too high and there is too much debt, but the president comprehends this and has put forth plans to address these issues. His stance on gun violence and measures to effect some controls are admirable. The American people should no longer accept the pain of the tragedies from guns that happen all too frequently.

The Republican response delivered by Marco Rubio was all fluff consisting primarily of the same old mantra that government is bad. I can fully understand why he needed a swig of bottled water in the middle of his speech.
