Your View: Sharing an opinion

JOPLIN, Mo. — In a letter to the editor (Globe, July 21), Jim Williams took issue with a guest column I wrote.   He referred to me as vindictive toward President Obama and liberals, and he stated that I consider myself an authority on such issues as religion, the Constitution, Obamacare, global warming, homosexuality, etc. Once again, Mr. Williams is wrong.

Because I’m not afraid to speak up when I disagree with the agenda that this president and liberals are pushing, you assume that I’m being vindictive toward them. I am simply sharing my opinions. I have never stated in any way, shape or form that I consider myself an authority on the issues you stated; however, I do read. That is why I encourage every citizen to read the Constitution to find out for themselves who is responsible for making our laws and who is responsible for making sure those laws are enforced.

You said I consider myself an authority on religion and homosexuality. Once again, Mr. Williams, you are wrong. I do read the Bible and believe what the Word of God says. If you disagree with the Word, that’s your right.

It comes as no surprise to me that you would say I muddle the facts, even though I use direct quotes from President Obama and state clearly what is happening as a direct result of his agenda. When you can’t use facts, Mr. Williams, you tend to attack the writer.

America is a country where we should be encouraged to think for ourselves, to seek the truth, to stand up for what we believe in without fear or shame. I hope more people will speak up without fear of being attacked by other individuals for sharing their opinions.
