The vote of no confidence for Bruce Speck is an embarrassment for Missouri Southern State University.
The faculty sound like a bunch of children throwing fits because some budget cuts had to be made. It’s time the faculty learns that it’s not just about them and their hurt feelings, but it is actually about the students.
Another complaint was that Dr. Speck spends too much time “schmoozing the community.” Through his time in the community, I feel that he communicates to Joplin what is going on at MSSU. Shame on you MSSU faculty.
I am a student at MSSU and vote “confidence” in Dr. Speck. Through his budget cuts, he managed to prevent tuition increases to students. He is willing to put himself out into the community so he has a face, not just a name. Sounds like a leader to me.
