Voices: We subscribe, too

There always have been politically leaning community newspapers and the reason they are leaning one way or the other is simple economics.

In all fairness, our own Joplin Globe in the past few years has steadily improved in allowing a greater cross-section of differing opinions in our voices column.

We liberals subscribe, too.

Allen Shirley (Globe, Nov. 3) in his zeal to chastise John T. McDonald (Globe, Oct. 24) has once again proven the real intellect of a true conservative by throwing around a bunch of words but not really getting anything solved that benefits real America.

You see, Mr. Shirley, your conservatives give credence to Limbaugh, Hannity, Chris Matthews and Fox News, and we “intellectual liberals” (your words) know that these “news sources” aren’t liars, they only spew divisive venom from the conservative wing of the Republican Party that write their scripts. In other words, they are paid mouthpieces for conservatives.

The Limbaughs of this world cannot lay claim to anything positive that they have accomplished except to supply a sounding board to a bunch of do-nothing whiners who don’t accomplish anything but division.

Behind every so-called “absolute truth” there is a dollar somewhere and there is no free lunch. Believe it.
