How times have changed. I just attended a program at the Webb City Junior High School. The complete school attended. My grandson, Capt. Ben Carter, was on a direct video hookup from Afghanistan, where many more men and women, according to the news, will be going. His wife and four children also attended the program.
When I was an MP at Dachau in 1945 during World War II, the only thing I received from family was mail.
My mother told me when her brother RuEtte Boyd was in World War I, they didn’t know when and if he would be coming home, until they saw a person walking to their house near Maple Grove.
“Is that RuEtte?” The last we knew, he was taking supplies to and near the front lines of war using two mules and a wagon.
The closer the man came, all the family started crying. “That is RuEtte.”
