I just read an article in The Joplin Globe (Nov. 10) about property valuations in Cherokee County, Kan.
It stated tax rates rise because of declining valuations. It stated that property valuation dropped nearly 2 percent.
I don’t know where they are getting their information, but my valuation went up over 3 percent when property valuations were down all over the county, and I had no changes in my property.
I appealed my valuation and they lowered it $100 from a $4,200 increase (big deal). I think there should be some kind of investigation into this, as appeals don’t do any good. They could not justify the increase. No wonder Cherokee County is the poorest county in the state. I lived here 38 years, and that’s the largest increase ever.
