Voices: Weak attempt at humor
If I may, I would like to make a quick response to Jeremiah Tucker’s column (Globe, Dec. 18) about the song “Christmas Shoes” being the worst Christmas song of all time.
First of all, let me say that I am a 21-year-old male college student, a demographic not known for its sentimentality, and I found Mr. Tucker’s “analysis” of this song to be less than impressive.
First let me say that I understand this article is supposed to be funny, but Mr. Tucker seems more intent on displaying a vocabulary that would be sure to awe any eighth-grader (congratulations, bourgeois is not only a three syllable word, it’s also of French origin) than he is on making any sort of song analysis or attempt at comedy.
Second, this article is just not funny. I have a feeling that the mention of Jim Jones’ “Dipset X-Mas Time” as a great Christmas song fell flat for more people than just myself.
Where is Mike Pound to write an article when you need him? Now I’m not one to hold Christmas songs in too high regard (I realize they are mostly attempts at making a quick buck), but coming from Mr. Tucker, calling this song “tuneless garbage” sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me. Considering that he named Big Boi and Gucci Mane’s collaboration “Shine Blockas” one of the top songs of 2009 in an article from Dec. 11, I find it difficult to take his breakdown of the song seriously.
All in all, I found this to be a waste of space that would have better been filled with a re-running of any of Mike Pound’s tales of his daughter’s antics.

In our view: Make it right
Ted White Jr.’s life hasn’t been his own for more than 10 years. The former Aurora man has been caught in a horrible nightmare where the supposed good guys wind up being the bad guys.
Now he finds there’s no honor among the City Council of Lee’s Summit. -
Voices: Vote ‘yes’ on Prop C
Aug. 3 is the date to vote “yes” for Proposition C — Missouri’s Health Care Freedom Act. Proposition C simply prohibits persons, employers, or health care providers from being compelled to participate in any health care system.

Voices: Deficit spending
Deficit and debt are the biggest dangers America faces, but you would not know that by watching any of the news.

I had a beautiful dog named Butch. This past week I had major back surgery and was in the hospital.

Editor's note: Campaign letters
The Joplin Globe wants to hear from candidates vying in the Aug. 3 election and their supporters and critics.

Voices: Compassionate conservative
I don’t usually endorse candidates for public office for three reasons. I usually don’t know them well enough, I know them and therefore can’t endorse them or I don’t think anyone cares what I think about them.

Voices: Nothing is free
As a citizen of this great country, of course I will vote yes for Proposition C. Last time I checked, health care is not a “right.”

Voices: Change for the better
Bill Buening is running for the state House in the 131st District. You will not see Bill as a frontrunner in fundraising because he has promised he will not take a dime from political action groups, special interests or lobbyists.

In our view: Accountable intelligence
Sometimes the more opinions one seeks, the better his perspective might become. Not so with intelligence collection and promulgation in the sense of matters related to national security and potential enemy intentions and capabilities.
