If I may, I would like to make a quick response to Jeremiah Tucker’s column (Globe, Dec. 18) about the song “Christmas Shoes” being the worst Christmas song of all time.
First of all, let me say that I am a 21-year-old male college student, a demographic not known for its sentimentality, and I found Mr. Tucker’s “analysis” of this song to be less than impressive.
First let me say that I understand this article is supposed to be funny, but Mr. Tucker seems more intent on displaying a vocabulary that would be sure to awe any eighth-grader (congratulations, bourgeois is not only a three syllable word, it’s also of French origin) than he is on making any sort of song analysis or attempt at comedy.
Second, this article is just not funny. I have a feeling that the mention of Jim Jones’ “Dipset X-Mas Time” as a great Christmas song fell flat for more people than just myself.
Where is Mike Pound to write an article when you need him? Now I’m not one to hold Christmas songs in too high regard (I realize they are mostly attempts at making a quick buck), but coming from Mr. Tucker, calling this song “tuneless garbage” sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me. Considering that he named Big Boi and Gucci Mane’s collaboration “Shine Blockas” one of the top songs of 2009 in an article from Dec. 11, I find it difficult to take his breakdown of the song seriously.
All in all, I found this to be a waste of space that would have better been filled with a re-running of any of Mike Pound’s tales of his daughter’s antics.
