JOPLIN, Mo. —
I see that the city of Joplin is up to its old tricks, hurting the poor folk.
In the past, whenever the city has brought up turning the Schifferdecker pool into a water park, the residents of Joplin have told them to leave the pool as it always has been, just a plain pool.
Now the Joplin City Council decided to make it into a big fancy pool, and on top of that, it is going to cost the users five times as much as it used to. The Schifferdecker pool is on the west side of Joplin in a lower income area, and now it is going to be out of the price range of the average user.
They have other pools in Joplin where they could charge those higher rates. Why couldn’t they just have left the Schifferdecker a plain simple pool for the poorer residents? Doesn’t anyone else remember that the residents of Joplin just wanted the Schifferdecker pool left for the average resident?
