Your View: Final judgment

— I am an American Indian. I am a little more than one-third Cherokee.

I have been a member of the Cherokee tribe of Tahlequah, Okla., since 1978.

My point is that I am a member of a minority race.

I do not look Indian. That is sometimes not good, since you sometimes hear things you would rather not hear.

My father was injured in an oil-field accident and could not serve in World War II. Three of his brothers did.

He ran a shoe shop and drove a school bus. Dad and Mom always gave equal treatment to their black customers. Word got out, and they had many black friends.

In all of this, I am leading up to the tragic death of Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was black, and George Zimmerman was Hispanic. The jury heard all the evidence. Let’s not second-guess them.

If the Christian faith is right, their verdict is not final. George Zimmerman still has to face the Lord, the righteous judge, in the final judgment.

I doubt if anyone on earth knows all the facts of this case, but God does and he will do right. Do you not think George Zimmerman has suffered and will suffer?

Even though he was acquitted, even if he faces no further charges, it is not over. He will always be looking over his shoulder. There was wrong on both sides.

Let’s let the past be the past. Let’s do our best to see that such a tragedy never happens again.

The Rev. Wallace E. Joice
