Your View: Hallmark of compromise

PITTSBURG, Kan. — I just hope the voices of people like John Sullivan and Larry Dablemont about assault weapons drown those of people like the National Rifle Association’s Wayne LaPierre.

Sullivan’s guest column (Feb. 18) about LaPierre representing mostly gun manufacturers was spot on. I think Larry Dablemont’s comments in his column about real sportsmen not needing assault weapons and associated firepower also reflect the views of most sportsmen.

Some of the proposed legislation is lacking, but laws to curb the carnage will likely leave a tear in the eye of both sides. That’s the hallmark of all good compromises.
