Your View: Remarkable achievement

JASPER, Mo. — Kudos to the Jasper R-5 School District girls and boys track teams.

At the Missouri State High School Athletics Association Class 1 district track meet held at Cass-Midway this past Saturday, the girls team won the district title and the boys team finished in third place in their division.

What is remarkable is the school district has no running track and the athletes practice on a blocked-off city street. The Jasper School District is also one of the first school districts in Southwest Missouri to have a fully functional Federal Emergency Management Agency-designed F-5 tornado shelter with a capacity of 1,615 people — big enough to protect all the enrolled students and the entire population of the city of Jasper.

A new provision by the U.S. Department of Agriculture allows qualifying districts with high percentages of students on food assistance to allow all students to eat free breakfasts and lunches. Would you agree with this provision?
